Design for production unit and water flow system (Deliverable 3.1)
The last project result so far, is a report on choice of design for production unit and a solution for implementation of the water flow system.
This report evaluates the different tank designs for a closed aquaculture system for intensive production of scallops, oysters and clams. A limited literature study of existing systems for fish and other aquaculture systems, has been conducted to gain a basic overview of requirements and functionalities. Different shapes and configurations of bivalve production units have been compared and evaluated, and recommendations are provided. Moreover, the development process of the ShellPlant holding units is described in detail and includes theoretical studies, design evaluations and a material study. Thus, the report provides important considerations for design of the production unit and gives a sound basis for work in upcoming deliverables dealing with the building of a holding unit prototype.
